MATH 180 - Transition to Adv Mathematics
Prerequisite: MATH 161/161E with a minimum grade of "C-", which may be taken concurrently This course is an introduction to formal mathematics and provides a transition from computation-based mathematics to the more theoretical approach used in advanced mathematics courses. Topics covered include mathematical logic, set theory, concepts of relation, function and cardinality, and the design and structure of axioms and axiomatic systems are discussed. A large emphasis is placed on reading, analyzing and learning to produce proofs of mathematical statements. Offered fall and spring semester.
